Pioneer Day, Girls Night & Christmas in July!

Random title...I know...but it's been a busy week!

Pioneer Day was a BLAST! Sosha invited the whole family up to her house in Roy for the day. We decided there was no better way to commemorate the pioneers' arrival to the Salt Lake Valley then to take the kids to the...Dinosaur Park! :) After a quick pit stop at KFC/A&W for a mashed potato bowl (a pioneer favorite, I'm sure!), we were on our way.

Connor was so excited! He LOVES dinosaurs "more than anything" (direct quote). As we were pulling into the parking lot, he was saying, "I can't believe we're here! This is going to be AWESOME!" You would have thought we had just pulled into the parking lot at Disneyland! But, I have to admit...it is a pretty cool park! They have dinosaur statues all over that you can walk around and see, plus they have a dinosaur playground and (my favorite) the "education center". It's a building where the kids can take a break from the heat and color pictures of dinosaurs, play dinosaur computer games, and build their own dinosaur out of wooden bones. It was pretty cool. Connor made sure that we walked the entire park so that we could see each and every dinosaur statue. As we walked, I was amazed at how much he already knew about dinosaurs. As we would get to a new dinosaur, Connor would say, "Whoa! There's an Allosaurus!" or "Hey look! There's a Spinosaurus!" He knew so many of their names! Maybe we have a "Ross" on our hands (if you're a fan of "Friends" you'll understand what I'm talking about)!

Aiden's favorite part was probably the cartoon stand-ups with the heads cut out (see picture). He ran from one to the next, sticking his head through the hole, posing for the picture, & then running to the next one. It was hilarious! He also liked the dino playground and cried when we finally had to pull him away from it!

Overall, it was an "AWESOME" (as Connor put it) way to celebrate Pioneer Day, even though it was about 95 degrees outside & the humidity was through the roof! Now THAT will make you grateful for what the pioneers went through!

After we had had our fill of dinosaurs for the day, we headed back to Sosha's house for a barbecue. It was great! Sosha made this really yummy grilled chicken, plus we had corn on the cob (my favorite...and probably the only vegetable I eat willingly). On top of that, a few thunderstorms moved through about 30 minutes before we were planning to eat & it cooled everything off perfectly! Kristin, or "Sewage" as we lovingly refer to her, even decided to grace us with her presence! Wow! :) The kids thought it would be a fun idea to eat on the trampoline, but that just ended up being a huge mess once they realized,

"Hey...when we jump, our food goes flying! That's pretty cool!" Oh well, at least they had fun! Overall, it was a great day!

The day after Pioneer Day was Girls Night! This month, we had a "Girls Night Boutique" at Tammy Camp's house. She has her own vinyl lettering machine, so we were able to order whatever saying or name we wanted, in the font we wanted, for about half the price it would cost you anywhere else! She also had one of her friends come to sell the jewelry that she makes. And, if shopping wasn't good enough, we also had dinner & a chocolate fountain...talk about a girl's dream come true! I ended up ordering some vinyl lettering for Connor's room that is pretty cute. It's the definition of a boy. It says, "Boy, n: a noise with dirt on it". I thought that was appropriate for Connor. I think I'll put it above his closet doors. I also ordered some really cute red crystal earrings from Tammy's friend. They are darling!

And, last but not least, I got a Christmas present in July. Last Christmas, my mom ordered me some fabric to make two more pillows for my living room. Well, being the busy girl that she is, she just got them made & brought them out to me. To tell you the truth, I think I had almost forgotten about them...and that made it really fun! It really was like Christmas in July!
